The City of Fairfield accepted a retirement letter from Fairfield Chief of Police Kenny Bulger, effective, November 30, 2018 during their Tuesday, November 13th meeting.

A retirement party is planned for Thursday, November 29th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Interim City Administrator Jana Taylor submitted a Termination of Contract Letter stating that her last day with the City will be December 5, 2018. All Councilmen, with the exception of James Tyus, voted to accept this letter. The City is currently in the application process of hiring a full-time City Administrator.

Public Works Director, Clyde Woods, informed Council about several items:

–On October 31st, lighting struck the communications tower at the TDCJ Boyd Unit, knocking out power to the communications. Due to this fact, department workers were unaware that the lift station had gone down during the storm until the following morning. Employees, working together with ONCOR, were able to get the lift station and communications up and running by 6:00 p.m. November 1st.

–Woods is in talks with ONCOR in regard to the Street Light Project, where various areas around the city will have lights installed for safety purposes. According to Woods, negotiations are still being discussed.

–Oak Street repairs will begin as soon as weather permits.

–South Bateman repaving has begun. Work is intermittent based upon weather.

–Citywide Cleanup will be during the week of December 3rd-8th. Fairfield residents can pick up a free dump pass at City Hall during business hours.

Jonathan Blackwell of Performance Services gave Council an update on the new water meter project. According to him, installation work should begin on Monday, November 26th and be completed by sometime in February, weather permitting.

Fairfield Cub Scouts will be getting an AC/Heating Unit for their scout hut, located at the fairgrounds, as unanimously approved by council. The install should be completed by Thanksgiving.

Approval of the new Disc Golf course design at the City Park has been put on hold due to confusion over property lines. Once there is clarification, an amended design will be presented to Council for approval.

Chris Lane and Melissa Crenshaw with the Fairfield Softball Association spoke to Council about getting help with labor for safety repairs at the Sandlots. Requests include a breaker box for lights, spraying for ants, repairs to bleachers and dugouts, and giving proper drainage to fields. Council determined that the association would be working closely with Clyde Woods to accomplish these goals.

Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department’s ladder truck, which has been in need of repairs for months, will finally receive those repairs. Council approved a bid from Siddons-Martin for $34,521.83. Only $10,000 was budgeted for vehicle repairs, therefore, Council is expected to approve a budget amendment for $24,522 during a special called meeting on Monday night, November 19th.

Fairfield City Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
