I got so scared the other day. I had gone down to feed Fedora and that went well until the bottle was empty. She stuck her head through the gate and couldn’t get it back out! I saw her stomping her feet and trying to pull her head out but it wasn’t happening. Hearing what sounded to me like bones cracking (they weren’t), I tried to calm her down. I worked and worked with her trying to get her unstuck but it just didn’t work. She was still stuck and I didn’t know what I was going to do. I tried opening the gate in to the corral, slowly, but she moved with it. Then I tried opening it out to the pasture just a little way and she was still stuck. Then I heard her breathing which was heart stopping. It sounded gravelly and as if she was on her last leg. Still, she kept stomping her feet and trying to get her head out of the gate. I didn’t know if she was going to get unstuck or die but I was afraid it was going to be she would die. My thought was I should run and get The Colonel but he was sick and I knew he couldn’t come down there; it was left up to me to figure out something. Moving the gate was not an option because it hadn’t worked the first time plus right after that was when she some trouble breathing. So, I said a short prayer asking for help, tried pushing her head back through and then started rubbing her head trying to comfort her. In all my ideas of trying to get her out of the gate, I never thought about how she really doesn’t like me to pat her on the head. She always twist her head when I do that. She twisted her head, backed up and was out of the gate. What a relief. Trials and tribulations at the Red Oak Ranch!
