We had another of “talks” last night.  It was all about when we were kids/teenagers.  The Colonel told me about his paper route and how he had one man who always was waiting for the paper when he threw it.  The man would grab the paper and wave it at him.  He was riding a bicycle but wanted a car.  Times were tough and so there was no car at that time for him.

He eventually made enough money from his paper route to pay $60.00 for a Model A.  Maybe he should have waited a little longer.  The Colonel’s mother and father went to Wednesday night’s service, his sister was sick, and he had instructions to stay home with her.  Well, he decided to cheer up his sister and he said to her, “let’s go for a ride”.  So, she must not have been that sick because they went.

He was driving fast and he tried to put on the breaks which didn’t work very good.  They drove up over a curb, ran through a yard and came to rest in another yard that had a tea party going on.  Of course, the women immediately complained to the minister of their church, (his father).  He had a talking to by his father but it was not too bad.  He decided to, in the future to follow his father’s instructions!  I have ridden with him in the pastures while he is chasing cows/calves/bulls out of the fields.  I held on to the door handle and prayed, prayed, and prayed!  Red Oak Ranch needs some speed limit signs!
