I love hauling hay and have been doing that the last week. However, I do not really like hauling hay when the temperature is in the hundred degrees. There is heat from the weather and heat from the tractor. Plus, even when a good cool breeze happens, my cap flies off. I keep on going and don’t stop until I come back by where my cap floated to the ground, pick it up and then keep going with my hand holding the cap on my head.

Today, we were both hauling but ran into some problems. The tractor that the Colonel was using decided it would not work today. He hauled four bales when the “blue” went down. And, of course, it went down in the hay pen we were using. So now we have to pull the tractor out so he can work on it. He was really put out though and said he was going to buy a new tractor. I doubt that but who knows?

We have had the Middle Herd locked up for a couple of weeks and today was the day they got their liberty with another treat. The Colonel opened the gate into the hay meadow and the cows came running. It almost looked like a stampede. They were so happy to get out of the Northeast Pasture, even the bulls were kicking their feet up. Some of the new calves were not sure of going through the gate because they had never been through it. They did watch and finally caught on to what they were supposed to do. Red Oak keeps on rolling even in the heat of the day.
