Congratulations to Editor Karen Leidy for bringing home a First Place win this weekend from the Texas Press Association 2022 Convention for their annual “Better Newspaper Contest.”

This year, the Freestone County Times earned a First Place in Advertising.

Leidy has served fulltime as Ad Designer for the newspaper the last three years.

Entries were judged on copy, originality / creativity, layout / design, use of photos, graphics & typography.

The “Times” winning entry included a “Special Salute to Working Women” ad for one of the local banks and a Wedding Venue ad that featured a photo collage.

Also included was a house ad titled “Back in The Times” that featured three Women In Black. The idea came from a movie poster and was suggested by Office Manager Natalia Marsters.

The newspaper was also awarded Third Place for Editorials.

These entries were judged on quality & style of writing, lead, persuasion, subject matter, and local significance.

Entries included a piece written on Election Night that encouraged readers to keep with their ideals regardless of the voting outcome. The second was a “thank you” to readers whose contributions make us a true “community” newspaper.

Both editorials were written by Editor Leidy.
