The Freestone County Historical Museum is proud to announce that Nancy Rula, one of our Board Members and long-time volunteer, has been awarded the Historic Preservation Award by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Historic Preservation Recognition Award recognizes and honors an individual or group that has done recent remarkable volunteer work at the community level.

The award may be presented to DAR members and non-members and recognizes achievements in all areas of historic preservation. This award was presented to her for the various books she has compiled about Freestone County and its history and the research she has given to the members of the community about their heritage. She has donated many hours of her time and energy compiling these books for references and research purposes which provides income for the museum.  All proceeds go to the museum.  The books are as follows:

THE YEAR OF 1890 IN FREESTONE COUNTY

This book will help fill in the gaps for the missing 1890 census and will contain documentation such as tax and school records for the year of 1890 in Freestone County, along with newspaper articles.  Also, Masonic annual proceedings from all Freestone County communities for the entire decade of the 1890s have been included. Accepted by the Daughters of the American Revolution Nation Library in Washington D.C.
This is a true honor for only books that are well-researched and documented are accepted!
