Brett Hoffman tossed six touchdown passes for the Buffalo Bison and they cruised past the Teague Lions 45-9 Friday night.

The teams exchanged possessions in the opening minutes of the game and played almost nine minutes with the game scoreless. Buffalo used the arm of Hoffman to get into scoring position.

Teague called a time out and on the next play, Hoffman hit Kannon Brantley across the middle for the 16-yard touchdown. Francisco Saldana added the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 3:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Teague moved the ball on their next possession to match the Buffalo touchdown. Lion quarterback Jake Callahan lofted a pass and Jarrett Bodine ran under it for a completion to the Buffalo 18-yard line. Four plays later, the Lions would turn the ball over on a missed fourth down.

The Bison offense wasted little time adding to the lead. On the first play from scrimmage on the drive, Hoffman threw a short pass to Eric Beshears and he turned it into a 74-yard touchdown connection down the far sideline. The extra point set the score at 14-0
Bodine took the kickoff and eluded the Bison defenders for a 42-yard kickoff return to near midfield. A couple of plays later, Callahan handed off to running back Nemier Herod and he came toward the near sideline and ran past the defense for a 52-yard touchdown run. The snap was mishandled on the conversion and Callahan attempted a pass and it fell incomplete and the Bison lead was 14- 6.

It only took a couple of minutes for the Bison to answer that touchdown. Buffalo picked up a couple of first downs and moved into Teague territory. Hoffman was forced to scramble on the next play and rolled to his right and found Jordan Rogers for the 32-yard touchdown and the 21-6 lead.

Buffalo was driving in the final moments of the first half and the Lion defense stiffened. Hoffman had an incomplete pass in the end zone on third down and defensive back Luke Stacks knocked the pass away on fourth down and the Lions took over deep in their own end of the field. Herod took the hand off and raced 73 yards and Rogers made the touchdown saving tackle at the Buffalo 14. The drive stalled and Uriel Medina kicked a 27-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 21-9

The Lions needed a stop before the half, but Hoffman move his team across midfield and hit Rogers for the second time on the night with a 47-yard touchdown pass and the halftime score was a 28-9 Buffalo lead.

Buffalo used their depth and strength to hold the Lions scoreless in the second half, while putting 17 more points on the scoreboard. The Bison scored on their first possession of the second half with a third touchdown pass to Rogers from Hoffman that covered 14 yards. He would add one more with a minute to go in the third quarter to Kyle Harrison for the 29-yard score, Hoffman’s sixth touchdown pass on the night. Saldana added a 28-yard field goal late in the game for the final of 45-9.

The Teague Lions are looking for their first win of the season and they will return home to take on the Kemp Yellowjackets in the district opener.
