Note: The Fairfield Eagle varsity football game scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2020 has been postponed. The game is rescheduled for Friday, October 30th in Groesbeck. There were 35 points scored in the first five minutes, but the Eagles were held to seven the remainder of the game and lost their first road contest of the season 35-21 in Robison facing the Rockets.

Robinson scored first in the shootout that would last for half of the first quarter. Robinson running back Brady Kay sprinted for a 22-yard gain with a 15-yard penalty for facemask added to the play. Later in the drive, on third down Kay ripped up the middle for the 29-yard touchdown run for the first score of the game and a 7- 0 lead.

The Eagles had their height set high to match the score. On the first play their possession, Eagle running back Jaylyn Daniels took the ball and raced past the Rocket defense on a 64-yard touchdown. Jonathon Garcia hit the extra point and tied the game at 7-7.

Scoring for the Eagle is Fairfield Senior, Dylon Rushin #26, confirmed by his teammates in the background.

Robinson would answer with a one play drive of their own. Kay was on the run again, this time on a 72-yard blast for the touchdown and a 14-7 lead.

The Eagle special team’s unit set the offense in great field position on the next Fairfield possession. Jacorey Daniels took the kickoff 59 yards and was brought down at the Robinson 24-yard line. Dylon Rushin had the backfield duty on the drive and his two carries put the Eagles on the scoreboard, the second for an 11-yard touchdown. Garcia tied the game with the extra point.

The Rockets put a drive together on the next possession. The 62-yard drive took seven plays and Kolton Saulters would score on a 23-yard run and Robinson took a 21-14 lead.

With just over two minutes remaining in the first half, the Eagles appeared to have tied the score. Kaden Crawford broke loose for an apparent 65-yard touchdown run that was called back on a penalty and the Rockets held onto a 21-14 lead heading into halftime.

Robinson took ball for the first possession of the second half and were forced to punt. The punt was fumbled, and the Rocket defense took over at the Fairfield 29-yard line. Kay carried both times on the scoring drive, the second for a 15-yard touchdown run and the Rockets extended the lead to 28-14.

The turnover bug would bite again on the kickoff. The on sides kick was covered by the Rocket defenders at the Fairfield 48. The Rocket offense would convert on two fourth down opportunities, one each by Kay and Saulters. Quarterback Joseph McHenry called his own number on the final play of the drive and scored on a 15-yard run to break the game open 35-14.

The Eagles would get one the touchdowns back on a 52-yard touchdown run by Rushin to close the gap to 35-21. Fairfield covered their on sides kick but came up one yard short on fourth down and the game was scoreless through the final quarter and the Robinson Rocket claimed the 35-21 win.

The Fairfield Eagles begin district play on Friday when the travel to Limestone County to take on the Groesbeck Goats.
