John Wesley Bennett, 88, passed away peacefully April 3, 2022 at home in Missouri City, Texas while in hospice care.

He is survived by wife of 63+ years, Flora; their daughter, Beth Anne (husband, Gary Gibbs); grandsons, Tyler Bennett Nickell (fiancée, Sophie Mercer) and Clayton Alexander Nickell (wife, Rachel Michele Nickell) along with many nieces and nephews and life-long friends.
John graduated with honors from Greenwood High School in Mississippi where he was a cheerleader. He earned a Business Administration degree at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

John was part of the ROTC during college and upon graduation joined the reserve in San Diego, California and then served in the US Navy stationed in Sasebo, Japan as part of the Admiral’s Staff.

Upon his return from the Navy, he went to work for United Gas in Shreveport, Louisiana where he met and married Flora Glynn Alexander.

In April of 1962 they had a daughter, Beth Anne.

In 1968 the family moved to the Houston, Texas area when John was transferred with his company, Western Geophysical. He worked there for almost 30 years in several different managerial positions until his retirement in 2002.

After retirement, John and Flo moved to Colorado to be near Beth Anne and her family. Being part of the everyday life of his grandsons was his greatest joy. John was always there cheering them on and celebrating their successes.

When John called you his friend it was for life. He was an avid puzzle builder and a great fan of the Hallmark Channel movies. He always said that God placed them and gave them the gift of life-time friends with each move. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, as a man of God, a faithful friend, a loving husband, father and grandfather “Pa”.
