Freestone County citizens were given the chance to meet and visit with the Democratic Candidate for State House Representative District 8, Wesley Ratcliff at an event on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

The open forum was held at Butler Community Center, hosted by Butler Community Improvement Coordination Council.

Approximately 50-60 guests were in attendance, including family, friends, and supporters.

Mr. Guy Manning, Sr. opened the forum; and former Sheriff Ralph Billings spoke on Ratcliff’s behalf.

When Ratcliff took the stage, he explained that he has been a member of this community for the past 16 years.

“You don’t live in a community for more than 15 years without putting down some roots,” he explains. “I may have lived in the big cities, but I’m a small-town boy at heart.”

Ratcliff’s education includes being a Dunbar High School graduate and earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Math/Physics from Prairie View A&M University.

His employment and business activities include the US Army, NASA, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, IBM, Started Business in Brooklyn, Started Business in Dallas, Currently operating an East Texas Ranch, and he is very active in Community activities.

His Main Platform:
–Teacher pay needs to be increased
–Education funding needs to be increased
–Security of educational facilities needs addressing
–Second amendment continues to be enforced
–Automatic weapons need to be banned
–Term limits needed at state and federal level
–Rural needs have to be addressed
–Healthcare has to be addressed
–Fair immigration laws

Following the forum, guests were treated to a BBQ lunch.

Wesley Ratcliff will run against Republican Candidate Cody Harris in the November 6, 2018 election.
