The Fairfield Eagles finished off the regular season on a winning note and will head to the playoffs and open with the Rockdale Tigers. They won convincingly against the Buffalo Bison to earn a split of the season series.
Buffalo won the first game in the set 70-55 when the teams played at Buffalo High School. The Johnson Activity Center was a cozy place to finish the season, and the Eagles dominated the game.
Kavion Hicks scored ten points in the first period to give the Eagles an early lead and Buffalo matched them score-for-score in the early moments. Madden McElroy added four more points to complete the scoring, and the Eagles led 16-14 at the end of the first period.
Hicks did more of the same in the second period with six more points, and all of his 16 points in the game came in the first half. Ja’Kendrick Turner scored five in the period and Connor Colvert hit a pair from long distance to take a 35-23 halftime lead.
It was a two-player offense for the Eagles to open the second half with McElroy and Turner scoring five points each and the Bison matched those ten points to even the total for the period but could not cut into the Eagle lead.
The Eagle offensive attack took control in the final eight minutes. Jeremy Brackens scored 15 points, all in the final period to put the Eagles lead even higher. Manny Brown scored a pair of three pointers in the period Kohl Collins hit also hit one in the fourth to close out a 74-55 win.
Palestine Westwood claims the district title and enters the playoffs as the top seed in the Division II bracket. Buffalo finished fourth in the district race and are the second seed in the Division II playoffs.
Mexia finished District 20-3A play as the runner up but enter the playoffs as the top seed in the Division I playoff Bracket. Fairfield will enter as the second seed in the Division I playoff and will play the Rockdale Tigers on Monday night at China Spring High School.
