Economic Growth, Covid-19 Policy, and job positions were on the agenda for the first meeting of the Freestone County Commissioner’s Court in 2021.

Freestone County Judge Linda Grant was absent for the meeting, Commissioner Precinct 4 – Clyde Ridge took over the meetings proceedings.

With this being the first meeting of 2021, Lloyd Lane joined as the new Commissioner for Precinct 3.

Three job positions were discussed, although they were tabled, Bill Madding is retiring at the end of the month so the County will need a new Health and Safety Officer.

The Veteran’s Officer and the Emergency Management Coordinator positions were also discussed, with plans to create job descriptions.
The last item on the agenda was a Covid-19 policy for employees who were unable to be at work for reasons related to the virus.

Ridge explained that, “I think we need a Countywide Policy that fits and will be beneficial to everyone,” as he explained why he wanted this item added to the agenda.

The item was discussed during the meeting, but plans to detail it will come at a later date but with it being proactive to Friday, January 1, 2021.

During the citizen comments section of the meeting, Fairfield EDC’s President David Fowler stated, “2020 was a tough year with the pandemic, but we were the busiest we’ve been in ten year.”

He listed over ten companies either retained in the area or coming new to the Fairfield, Texas that will add approximately 100 jobs plus the tax revenue they will bring.

Fowler concluded by stating that while he works for the City of Fairfield, he was more than willing to help Freestone County as well to bring growth to this area.
