Overall Livestock Sales Total $624,625 with Almost $64,000 in Ad-Ons…so far

Honoring its 100th Year Anniversary, the 2022 Livestock Show Sale was a record-buster!

And, it’s all thanks to the buyers who came out to support the youth of Freestone County.

The Grand Champion Steer (at top), exhibited by Rachel Lewis, sold for a whopping $20,000 in big bucks!

That’s $5,000 more than last year’s record breaker.

In fact, during the Saturday, June 18th auction, Freestone County’s Grand Champion animal projects sold for a total of $52,000. That figure is 25% higher than last year’s totals.

Total sales for the 130 animal projects added up to $624,625!

Still coming in, Add-Ons were estimated at $63,930 at press time.

If anyone would like to include any more add-ons, simply email Michelle Welch at rjlmwelch@gmail.com and she will make you an invoice.

This same generosity helped raised enough money through the Senior raffle to award a $500 scholarship to each of the twenty-four graduating senior livestock exhibitors at the 2022 Freestone County Fair.

Great job by the community in support of youth!

Here are the results for the Grand and Reserve Champions:

Grand Champion Steer, exhibited by Rachel Lewis of Fairfield 4-H, sold to R Construction for $20,000.

Fairfield Young Farmers and Black Livestock joined together with $10,000 to purchase the Grand Champion Swine, exhibited by Chelsie Faughn of Fairfield FFA.

The Grand Champion Sheep sold for $6,500 to Texas Farm Bureau. Exhibitor was Kai Lookabill of Fairfield 4-H. Kai also earned the Grand Champion Senior Showmanship award for her performance in the Livestock Show.

Exhibitor Kenna Coufal of Fairfield 4-H sold her Grand Champion Goat for $6,500 to Texas Farm Credit. Kenna also earned the Grand Champion Junior Showmanship award for her performance during the Livestock Show.

Unfortunately, with the daily 100-degree heat experienced during Fair Week, Miss Coufal’s goat took ill. And so, the Fair Association will by paying the floor price back to this buyer.

Bush’s Chicken took the Grand Champion Poultry, exhibited by Austin Mims of Teague FFA, for a total of $5,000.

The Grand Champion Rabbits, exhibited by Bryson Myers of Fairfield 4-H, sold to Tony Adkins of Specialty Risk Insurance for $4,000. Tony was recognized as a Volume Buyer for the 2022 Livestock Show Sale.

The Reserve Champion Steer, exhibited by Jarrett Bodine of Freestone Community 4-H, sold for $19,950 to NIP Ranch. Auctioneer Clint Minchew noted that Bodine showed every single year, and this was his first project in the Sale.

The Best In-County Swine was exhibited by Andrew Tucker of Teague FFA, and sold for $4,000 to Texas Towing.
