Attending the premiere of his first movie First Man at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, October 4, 2018 is Wortham 6th Grader, Luke Winters.

Luke walked the red carpet with co-stars Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy for the premier of their new movie First Man.

He is the son of Rhonda and Shane Winters.

This riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon focuses on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie explores the sacrifices and the cost on Armstrong and the nation of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

In this 2-hour, 18-minute movie, Luke plays a young Armstrong in the early years of life.

Filming for the movie took place in Atlanta, Georgia during 2017.
Luke says that working with actor Ryan Gosling was “fun” and that “he was very nice.”

“Everyone told me to just be myself and to have fun,” says Luke.
When asked if he had seen himself on the big screen, his answer was, “Yes, and it was weird.”

Reviews for the movie are already coming in and so far, they are overwhelmingly positive! The movie currently has an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and the site says that the film “uses a personal focus to fuel a look back at a pivotal moment in human history – and takes audiences on a soaring dramatic journey along the way.”

First Man hit theaters on Thursday, October 11th and can be seen at the Palestine, Corsicana, and Waco movie theaters.

Be sure to check it out and support a fellow Freestone County resident.

Congratulations to Luke on a job well done!
