Derek Hale, 17, of Wortham is a very well-rounded young man who is headed places.

The son of Sharon Hale, Derek will be a senior at Wortham High School next year.

On May 29, 2017, Derek traveled to Pflugerville to participate in State UIL Competition, the only student from his choir group to make it that far; and he earned himself a I rating with his Tenor/Bass Solo singing “Ching-A-Ring Chaw.”

He is the first student from Wortham HS to win at State with a Choir Solo since 2006.

Derek has participated in All-Honors Choir since he was in third grade with Linda Ferris as his teacher.

He has performed at many venues in Texas, including the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.

Derek is also a member of the Texas Junior Federation of Music Clubs, and has been so since 2006.

He has brought home three All-State plaques for Vocal Solo, Piano Duet, and Piano and Solo Hymn; and one Outstanding Award for piano solo.

Noelle Chilton, owner of Chilton Music Studio, is Derek’s piano instructor.

Just recently, Derek joined International Association of Music Ministries in April of this year; and performed “Long Black Train” solo and “That’s Enough For Me To Know” with the quartet ‘The Riders.’

He has also made special guest performer appearances at The Corsicana Opry, beginning in December 2016.

In addition to all of these accomplishments, Derek also maintains his status as an A-Honor-Roll student at Wortham High School; and he serves as church pianist at Richland First Baptist Church since May 31, 2015.

Congratulations Derek. We look forward to seeing more of your great accomplishments!
