Wortham High School’s two competition BBQ cooking teams, the Mean Beans and the Bulldog Beefstro Pit Masters, showcased their talent and dedication at the State Competition held this past weekend at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The Texas High School BBQ Inc. event drew BBQ enthusiasts from across the state, all vying for top honors in 5 categories; dessert, beans, chicken, ribs and brisket.

The Mean Beans, known for their creative flair, impressed the judges with their delectable strawberry cheesecake, earning them a respectable 9th place in the dessert category. Their innovative approach and attention to detail were evident in every bite, securing their spot in the top 10.

The Bulldog Beefstro Pit Masters, on the other hand, proved their mastery in traditional BBQ fare. Their chicken dish stood out among the competition, landing them a solid 5th place. Additionally, their brisket caught the judges’ attention, earning them another 9th place finish. Breaking into the top 10 in briskets is a significant achievement, highlighting the team’s skill and expertise in the art of BBQ.

“It’s been an incredible journey for both teams,” said Coaches Renee Bean, Jessica Wilkins and Amy Gose who have been leading the teams with passion and dedication. “Their hard work and determination have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.”

The teams’ success not only highlights their culinary prowess but also serves as a testament to their teamwork and perseverance. As they return home to Wortham, they carry with them not just trophies but also valuable lessons and memories that will last a lifetime.
