The Teague Lions knew they had to corral Whitney quarterback Devin Wilson. The Lions were added to the list of those who tried to contain him as they dominated Teague 61-28 Friday night in Teague.

The Wildcats remain tied for the lead in the District 9-3A Division I race with state champion Grandview and Whitney will host the Zebras on Friday night. Teague returns to the road for the final time in the regular season to take on Maypearl and remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Whitney quarterback Devin Wilson electrified the crowd on a third down play on their first possession. He sliced through a pair of Teague defensive linemen and weaved his way downfield for an apparent 62 yard touchdown that would be called back for holding. He would score a few plays later on a 24 yard run and Whitney took the early 6-0 when the point after was blocked.

Teague answered the score on their possession with a touchdown to take the lead. Lion running back Nemier Herod had a couple of runs to the Whitney 33. Teague freshman quarterback Jake Callahan dropped to pass and found Drew Satterwhite for the 33 yard score and Roberto Escobedo kicked his team into the lead with the extra point and a 7-6 lead.

Whitney bounced back in the lead near the end of the first quarter and Wilson dazzled with his arm instead of his legs. He hit receiver Kolby Tanner for a 30 yard gain to the Lion 11 and Wilson added his second touchdown run on a seven yard burst up the middle. He added the conversion run for the 14-7 lead.

The lead grew to 32-7 at the half on three scores by the Wildcats. Dez Garner scored on a pair of short runs in the first half of the quarter, the first coming as a result of a Teague fumble. With three minutes remaining in the first half, Teague pinned the Wildcats inside their 20 on a long punt. Wilson took the snap and cruised 81 yards for the touchdown and the 32-7 halftime lead.

Teague took the ball in the second half and picked up a couple of first downs and moved into Whitney territory. Herod had the ball knocked away and Juan Saucedo picked it up and raced 70 yards for the scoop and score and the lead swelled to 39-7. Whitney added a second defensive touchdown when Tristan Glass picked up a fumble and ran 17 yards for the score and a 47-14 lead.

The teams exchanged two scores each in the final four minutes of the game on Wildcat runs of 80 by Saucedo and one by Jordan Newton . Callahan scored on a one yard run and Luke Stacks scored on a 64 yard run.
