Fairfield Intermediate School is gearing up for the second annual Lemonade Day, coming this spring.

Last year for the pilot program, forty-two students ranging from third to fifth grade, signed up for the Lemonade Extravaganza with teacher Gina Martin.

This strategic lesson-based program directs students from the dream to a business plan, while teaching the skills needed to start and run a company.

The students are encouraged to work hard and make a profit, while at the same time spending some, saving some, and sharing some, by giving back to the community.

For the pilot program, no official sponsor was secured, so parents had to purchase the backpack and workbooks themselves.

After having such a huge success last year, this year, Mrs. Martin is looking for area businesses to get involved as sponsors.

Through the support of these sponsors, the youth are provided with free educational materials that will teach them how to set goals, create a product, prepare a budget, seek an investor, choose a location, design a marketing plan, and to provide customer service.

For these young entrepreneurs, the experience sparks an explosion of new confidence in their abilities, and for many, a new vision of possibilities for their future.

Mrs. Martin is working with Brenda Pate, Executive Director of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, to bring this great event back to Fairfield; and the pair is working hard to see it grow.
