On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, the local Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held its first meeting of the year at Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia, TX. Members enjoyed an assortment of sandwiches and refreshments at 4:30 PM before the meeting commenced at 5 PM. Dr. Lisa Rogers, Tau Chapter President, welcomed all in attendance. There was prayer and a moment of silence in remembrance of the 2967 lives lost on 9/11/01. Ms. Lillian Fite, our newest member, gave the inspiration and the National Anthem was played. Each member was able to share their experiences on that tragic morning. It has now been 18 years ago. Some were teaching in classrooms, at home with small kids, or out in the community that morning.
Delta Kappa Gamma is an international society of teachers- retired and active. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 8, 2020 at Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia. All teachers in the Limestone and Freestone County are asked to please come and celebrate with them. Please wear pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At this meeting, first year teachers from Groesbeck, Coolidge, Wortham, Mexia, Dew, Teague, and Fairfield ISD will be given a chance to be awarded a $100 grant-in-aid scholarship. If you are a current female teacher, staff member, or administrator at any of these school districts, you are strongly encouraged to attend and support your new or first year female teachers. First year teachers in the seven school districts have been asked to complete a form and bring it to the meeting. Those first year teachers attending the meeting on October 8, 2019 will be eligible for the grant-in-aid funds. Shae Sartor, Teague PreK teacher, was the sole recipient of the grant last year. Dr. Lisa Rogers will be sharing some fun games that teachers can implement in their classrooms throughout the school year during the program. Interested female educators, counselors, active, and retired teachers are asked to come and join the organization. Many members belong to the Limestone County or Freestone County Retired Teachers Association. We look forward to seeing you in Mexia on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
Please note: Due to the fire at Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia, we will not be meeting there until further notice. The October 8, 2019 meeting will be at the Farm House restaurant in Mexia.
