Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas, in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), will host the 10th annual Hiring Red, White & You! (HRWY) Event on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Waco Convention Center located at 100 Washington Ave.

This statewide event, a joint initiative supported by the Office of the Governor, Texas Medical Center (TMC), and TVC, connects Texas veterans and their spouses with employers who are seeking their skillset. This event is open to the general public and is provided at no cost to job seekers and employers.

“On behalf of the people of Texas, I want to thank all of our military veterans who have served this great nation and defended freedom around the world,” said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. “As we unleash the full might of the Texas economy, it’s important to know that Texas has your back. Greater prosperity for all begins with employment that fully utilizes your skills, dedication, and drive. That is why I encourage employers in Texas to attend a Hiring Red, White and You! event on Nov. 4.”

Job seekers can register online at bit.ly/hrwy-reg for the Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas HRWY event until Tuesday, Nov. 2. Job seekers will also be able to register in person the day of the event. Employers should complete the business registration form at bit.ly/biz-reg by Thursday, Oct. 28, to participate. Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas serves job seekers and employers in Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Limestone and McLennan counties.

“Veterans are good candidates for many good jobs,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “The skills, experience, and training veterans receive in the military have a positive influence on the Texas Workforce. Texas employers participating in TWC’s Hiring, Red, White & You! events recognize this, too.”

Employers who hire veterans may be eligible for the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, which allows employers to receive up to $9,600 on federal business income or payroll tax benefits when they hire from certain qualified groups of veterans.

“Texas veterans bring a lot to the table: skills, maturity, an unparalleled work ethic and a tradition of selfless service to others,” said Texas Veterans Commission Chairwoman Laura Koerner. “Veteran employment events like Hiring Red, White & You! give them the opportunity to showcase their skills and earn the opportunity for a rewarding career.”

Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resume and dress for an interview.

“While resumes aren’t required to attend, we encourage job seekers to bring one if they have one,” said Jose Palacios, Manager of Business and Industry Initiatives for Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas. “For those who need it, computers, printers and resume assistance are available at no cost at each of our Workforce Solutions Resource Centers.”

TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Aaron Demerson said he also encourages employers to participate in this local event.

“The Hiring Red, White, & You! event on Nov. 4 is an incredible opportunity for Texas employers to connect with our veterans, who are natural leaders that know how to get the job done,” said Demerson. “Texas veterans have served our nation in their military careers and now it’s our turn to return the favor. Thank you to all Texas employers who have placed hiring veterans a top priority in their workplace.”
