Last week, TXDOT workers were observed installing a temporary signal on Highway 84 at the Post Oak intersection in Fairfield, Texas.
This is expected to remain in place until a permanent signal is installed, estimated for Spring of 2021.
TxDOT is using the existing flashing beacon setup as much as possible and are replacing the flashing beacons with signal heads. Because of the angle of the roadway and the offset between FM 1580 and the driveway to the RV park, they are installing additional poles so that the signal heads facing FM 1580 and the driveway line up better and are visible to drivers.
The permanent signal installation will remove all of the wooden poles and wires over the road and replace them with metal poles and mast arms over the roadway. TxDOT is also reaching out to the owners of the RV park to discuss realignment of the driveway.
The Hwy 84 / Post Oak Road intersection has been a problem area for many years, most recently involving a fatal collision with a motorcycle and 18-wheeler that occurred in June.
