In their first Christmas season, Funny Farm Trees is making an impact on our entire community.

When Randy and Sonya Maness planted their first Virginia Pine trees six years ago, their intent was to have a traditional Christmas tree farm. They had dreams of providing a wonderful experience to local families.

Through the years, they also planted Loblolly Pines, Texas Red Oaks, Shumard Oaks, and Eastern Red Cedars.

Unfortunately, health issues did not allow them to groom and shape the trees, as is commonly done.

The family had to make some tough decisions on the future of the trees, deciding between bulldozing and burning their crop or finding a way to donate them.

Fast forward to a partnership with the community food bank.

The couple agreed to offer the trees in exchange for a donation.

This can be done one of three ways, including: monetarily, through canned goods, or with a new unwrapped toy.

The Maness family kicked off the season right after Thanksgiving and have seen many happy faces in the past couple of weekends. Friends and volunteers have helped and have worked to offer a hayride to those wanting to participate.

Upon entering the farm, they explain the layout and then it is a very personal experience. Families walk the land until they find that perfect natural Christmas tree.

It is a self-serve operation, making it even more unique to cut, trim, and shape to individual desire.

This Saturday, December 12th is their last day of business.

The farm is located at 590 FM 27 West, just 5.4 miles west of I-45. There is a large red and white banner that is easily visible from the road.

They encourage people to bring their own hand saw or trimmers, but also have some on-site if needed.

We had a wonderful experience when visiting Randy and Sonya on Sunday, December 6th. They were very welcoming, sincere, and gracious. It is apparent that they simply love to give to others.

They spoke of donating trees to recent events in the community and their pride was evident while sharing about it. Please consider visiting them this Saturday and take the opportunity to give back to others.
