A Union Pacific Railroad train collided with a Toyota Avalon in Wortham, Texas on Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2024, resulting in the death of the driver.

The collision took place just before 12:30 p.m., on County Road 1001, at the Freestone County / Navarro County line, where the train track intersects with Highway 14.

The driver, a white male, was the only occupant of the vehicle. Rescue team had to extricate the man, but he was already deceased.

According to Wortham PD Chief Kelly Butler, this particular crossing does not have crossing arms.

Working the scene were Wortham PD Seargeant Kelly Craig and Officer Ashley Daniel. Also assisting were Texas DPS officers, Freestone County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Justice of the Peace, Theresa Ferris.

The body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

No other details are being released at this time.
