Linda Thornton presents a check for $4,715.00 to Freestone Cancer Support Group representatives Spain and Bettye Trask.

Five years ago, her son Bryan Thornton was ill with Pancreatic Cancer and had lots of medical bills.

His friends and Diamond Back Texas followers came up with an idea to help him financially by having a benefit.

Bryan passed away in March 2016 and the same group wanted to honor his memory by having what they called Bryan Thornton Blowout and giving scholarships to the tri-county students with a percentage to go to Freestone and Limestone Co. Cancer Support Groups.

This group and hardworking friends have made it possible to give 11- $2,500 scholarships and will be giving 4 more this year.

We call it musical scholarships because music was a big part of Bryan’s life. We don’t expect the students to go into music but do like them to appreciate how important music is.

We give to the cancer group because Bryan knew from experience how tirelessly they work to help those in need while suffering from this terrible disease.
