Moonlighting, Rodeos, and Demolition all discussed during the Teague Board of Aldermen meeting held Monday, May 18, 2020.

For fifteen years, the City of Teague has kept a lease with the Teague Rodeo Association.

They approved a vote that will give them a sixty-day extension on that lease, allowing they provide their own insurance.

This came not long after Governor Abbott made the decision that Rodeo’s could now reopen.

A $28,500 bid on the demolition of Teague’s Old Municipal Power Plant, that protects the slab, was approved.

Last year, the Aldermen had voted against demolition, but upon closer examination decided that the building was not salvageable.

Officer’s moonlighting was a strong point of discussion with City Administrator Theresa Bell and Police Chief Dewayne Philpott offered reasons on both sides of the discussion.

Included in the discussion was the possibility of allowing the officers to work through the police department for private businesses and/or individuals.

The Aldermen voted to hold a workshop, after the budget workshop was finalized, in order to better examine the situation from all angles and decide what is best for the officers and the city.

A discussion over helping the citizens be able to better clean and clear their yards was had, with a decision to waive the burn permit fees through Monday, August 31, 2020.
