Teague Police Department has become aware of a scam potentially affecting our local area.
The scammers have spoofed the police department phone number (254-739-2553) to use in their criminal venture of scamming local citizens. They are using the police chief’s name and identifying him as part of homeland security, presumably to extort money from unsuspecting people.
The call may seem legitimate, since it appears to be the police department number, but in fact is a scam!
Teague Police Department is not working a telephone campaign with Department of Homeland security, nor is our chief of police. THIS IS A SCAM!
We encourage everyone to be vigilant and suspicious of calls claiming to be a government agency and/or claiming to need money from you in this manner.
Please contact us if you suspect you may have been contacted by individuals posing as government agencies/representatives. Gather as much information as you can to help us in putting an end to this criminal enterprise.
