Officers of Teague Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of Grayson Street. The call involved “a skinny Black male, looking across the tracks, with a gun.” Officers quickly arrived at the location and observed the described person standing in the roadway, next to a creek by the railroad tracks. The male, after seeing officers arriving, turned around (having his back to them) and tossed a handgun into the creek next to the railroad tracks. He was detained, after a brief period of being uncooperative with officers, and placed into a patrol vehicle. Officers searched the area where he tossed the weapon and found it in the creek bed, at the edge of the water. Officers recovered and secured the weapon. The male was advised he was under arrest. The individual denied the weapon was his. He was transported to the Freestone County Jail where he was booked for Unlawful Carrying of Weapon and Tampering with Evidence.

Incidentally, this same individual is one arrested Saturday evening. Teague Police arrested him for Criminal Trespass, Theft, and Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport. The officer was forced to use his taser, during this incident, due to him resisting officer’s efforts to subdue him. Teague EMS evaluated and cleared him for confinement. He was bonded out afterwards.

No-one was hurt during this incident.

Excellent work on Teague Officers for their response to the needs and safety of our citizens!

Have you considered being a police officer and just could not afford to leave your job to go to the academy? Cannot work and go to the academy at the same time?

We have news for you!

At the June 12, 2023, City Council Meeting our Board of Aldermen authorized the police department to hire non-certified/licensed individuals as Police Cadets. The goal in this is to provide training and employment opportunities to individuals that, for lack of being a certified officer, would otherwise be qualified candidates for being hired as police officers. The city bears the cost of tuition, equipment, uniforms, and pays you a salary to attend a Basic Peace Officer Academy. Upon graduation and passing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement examination you will be transitioned to a full time Peace Officer with our agency.
