Junked cars and outdated infrastructure were just a couple of the things Teague City Council focused on this past Monday, March 15th when their board of aldermen met for their monthly meeting.

A hearing was held to receive public comment on the issue of 4 cars being declared a public nuisance by the City of Teague.

The vehicles were inspected by Teague Chief of Police Dewayne Philpot on March 3rd and property owners were sent certified letters afterwards.

The vehicles were then inspected again on March 15th.

All 4 vehicles were found to be non compliant with City of Teague.
The aldermen approved resolutions for the 4 vehicles declaring them “junked vehicles”.

The owners will have 10 days to either remove their vehicles or make their vehicles compliant. After this time has passed the City of Teague has the right to remove the vehicles.

It was noted by Chief Philpot that more vehicles will be brought to the attention of the aldermen in the coming months, alluding to an ongoing effort by the Police to focus on code violations in Teague.
Next on the agenda the Board was presented with bids and maps of the Mimosa Lane bridge.

It should be noted that, residents of Mimosa Lane have dealt with the poor condition of the bridge and water damage to multiple homes due to flooding. Residents want the bridge either closed or replaced.

Costs for these proposed projects range from $150,000 to $500,000 depending on the decision of the board.

No decision was made on Monday and the council put off talks of Mimosa Lane until the 2021 budget meeting.

Additional Action Items that were discussed are as follows:

— A bid was received for a consulting and brokerage service(Central Texas Benefits). This bid was approved and the City will enter into 2 year/$12,000 per year contract.

–Additional paid time off was approved for city employees that worked during the recent Winter Storm.

–A write off request for utilities was approved for a deceased resident.

–The old City Hall was discussed in Executive Session but, no action was taken at this time.

–It was discussed that the Economic Development Department is looking for a Director. Applications are being taken at this time.
