“We had a wonderful cleanup day,” exclaimed Teague’s City Administrator/Secretary Theresa Prasil during her departmental report. “We had about 90 volunteers come out to help with cleaning and mowing around town. We hauled off the equivalent of about 10-inches thick and the size of a football field worth of trash and debris. I’m so glad we got to make a difference!”

Plans are to make this an annual event and hopes more people will become involved each year.

The City will soon be purchasing three Police Tahoe Vehicles to replace three worn out vehicles from its fleet.

On Monday, May 20, 2019, City Aldermen voted unanimously to approve the purchase of these vehicles from Holiday Chevrolet with financing from Prosperity Bank. The loan will be at a rate of 3.49% for a three year term, to be paid quarterly.

Cost of police graphics and installation of equipment is not included, and is estimated to cost approximately $4,500 to complete.

The vehicles should be on the road sometime in August.

To help offset the cost, the City will be having a surplus auction once inventory is completed.

Aldermen approved a grant amendment for the Texas Department of Transportation Routine Airport Maintenance Project, increasing the awarded amount.

“This does not mean we WILL be spending any more money at this time,” explains Prasil. “It just means that we CAN if we need to.”

She also stated that this increase in this 50/50 grant was not requested by the City, but offered by the State. According to Prasil, this money could potentially be used for adding a fueling system on location.

Three agenda items dealing with the City of Fairfield and the TDCJ Agreement and operation of the system were ‘Tabled’ during this meeting, with no discussion on the topic.

Also ‘Tabled’ was the presentation of findings for the Fiscal 2017-2018 Financial Audit by the Accounting Firm of Donald L. Allman, C.P.A., PC.

According to Prasil, the audit is not complete yet, as the auditor is waiting for records and information from the City’s attorney. A special called meeting will be held once the audit is complete.

Mayor James Monks signed a Proclamation declaring the weekend of August 2-4, 2019 as “Booker T. Washington and J.A. Brooks School Weekend” for the City of Teague.

Aldermen voted to restructure the City’s Park Pavilion Committee to contain only one, not two, City Aldermen. This change will allow the committee to meet without having to abide by Texas Open Meeting Acts laws.

The committee met the following evening and announced that this year’s Holiday in Teague will be on Saturday, November 30th, and will include the annual tree lighting and various events downtown.

“We are so excited to be bringing back many of Teague’s old traditions,” says Prasil. “This year, during the July 4th Rodeo Week, we are bringing back the ‘Jail’ with help from the Teague Historical Society. Various City leaders and citizens will be ‘arrested’ and put in ‘jail.’ They will have to raise money to get released.”

She further stated that there will be a street dance on Monday, June 24th. This is a free event. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be available for a small fee.

Also, there is a Teague themed t-shirt fundraiser in the works. As soon as a design is approved, order forms will be available at City Hall, Ladonna’s, and Pharmacy Plus.

There will be a Teague Town Hall Meeting on Monday, June 3rd beginning at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. Residents will be allowed to ask questions to Department Heads.
