Teague, Texas was the first city in Freestone County to order a Shelter in Place order that went into effect Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
The order requires the citizens of Teague, Texas to stay in or about their place of residence because leaving increases their chances of contracting COVID-19.
Going outside, is acceptable and even recommended during this time, as long as the requirements of social distancing of six feet and groups smaller than ten are followed.
A person may go out in public to go to work, or to purchase items from a business listed as essential (see below).
“The City of Teague is taking extraordinary measures in good faith to reduce or prevent any spread or threat from the COVID-19 virus and encourages its citizens to abide with these measures,” was explained in a release from Alderman Place 1 Jerry Ballew.
Additionally, the City of Teague was the first city in Freestone County to hold their Board of Aldermen’s meeting virtually, on Monday, March 23, 2020 at 6:0 p.m.
The virtual meeting was certainly a new experience, but seemed to work well with everyone taking it in stride.
During the meeting, three topics were covered:
–The Declaration of Disaster was extended to April 20, 2020 at 1:59 p.m.
–The General Election in the City of Teague was postponed until Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
–Vicky Little was hired as the new Municipal Judge after Mayor James Monks appointment
The City of Teague held a meeting Monday, March 30, 2020 after press time.
The agenda has a few items up for discussion and possible action.
–To extend the Shelter in Place.
–Add a Penalty Provision to the Emergency Operations Plan
