February’s Fairfield ISD School Board Meeting shone a light on an essential member of the FISD team when Sheila Ransom reported to the Board that Wendy Zachry was named Fairfield Elementary “Teacher of the Year”. Also recently presented with Fairfield Intermediate “Teacher of the Year” award was Mitchell Pate. A big THANK YOU goes out to these and to all of our communities’ teachers.

FISD students and parents should keep an eye out for the 2021 – 2022 school year calendar, approved in this month’s meeting.

The Board opened up the meeting to public comments. They received input from Butler Community Center Representatives regarding the building that is owned by FISD. Nicole Crawford (of Fairfield High School) spoke to thank the board for their time and dedication to FISD. Fairfield Elementary campus report was given by Sheila Ransom.

The Board discussed the following topics:

–Reading Academies, all teachers in grades K-3 must participate in reading academies. FISD will join an ESC 12 cohort to begin this process in June. FISD is looking at providing stipends for these teachers upon completion.

–Teacher Incentive Allotment was discussed. Board was informed on: estimated amounts provided to teachers who qualify; estimated percentage of teachers who will qualify for recognized, exemplary and master status.

–2021-2022 data set will include all math and reading teachers in the district; process will be amended for 2022-2023 to include all teachers; teachers will be scored on 40% TTESS, 45% student growth, and 15% district created measures; all teachers can participate in TIA if willing to pursue a National Board Certification.

–Board Certification; the district has provided correspondence, face-to-face meetings, small group meetings, and district committee meetings to assist in finalizing our application due in April; teachers would begin to see additional funds in 2023 or 2024 according to TEA.

–Dual Credit; The district is considering paying tuition costs for dual credit CTE courses through TSTC and Navarro College academic courses. Requirements, availability and processes will continue to be discussed in the coming months.

–Enrollment and attendance were discussed and have been steady since returning from Christmas break.

Board Meeting Action Items were as follows:

–The Board ordered the FISD Board Election for May 1st and approved election judges for the May 1st election.

–The Board approved replacing the Wi-Fi infrastructure for the entire district. E-rate funds and ESSER grant funds will be used for this purchase.

–The Board approved the school calendar for 2021-2022.

–Local Board Policy 116 prepared by TASB approved.

–Safety measures approved.

–Consent agenda approved.

–Administrative contracts approved for: Melissa Cox, Andrea Roller, Bryan Gawryszewski, Lisa Tate, Sharon Gibson, Arland Thrill, and Crystal Thrill.

The next FISD School Board Meeting will be held on March 15th, this date was rescheduled due to Spring Break.
