A long awaited project has finally reached completion as the City of Streetman officially cut the ribbon on its new Community Facilities Partnership hospice Thursday, January 10th.

The building, located at 201 & 203 North Houston in Streetman was made possible by the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Community Enhancement Fund with the goal of addressing public health and educational needs. It is one of the only facilities of its kind in Texas.

“We really believe that this is a good investment of federal funds into the rural community,” said Suzanne Barnard, Director for Community Development Block Grants Office of Rural Affairs for the Texas Department of Agriculture, “and we are so excited to see this open today.”

Through the city’s partnership with Parkview Regional Hospital the facility will serve as the community by providing adult and child wellness exams, immunization clinics, and other routine healthcare visits.  “We felt like the community and everyone involved shared the mission of Parkview, which is to make communities healthier, so that’s what we look forward to doing with everyone’s help,” shared Jill Ferguson, MSN, APRN, FNP-C.

The city’s partnership with Navarro College will bring for educational opportunities such as adult literacy, continuing education, and workforce development to the community.

Representing Navarro College were Harold L. Housley, Ph.D., Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Operations and Dr. Kevin Fegan, District President who credited Mayor Johnny Robinson for pursuing the project on behalf of the City of Streetman.

Dr. Fegan shared that Navarro’s first initiative will be to meet with members of the community to assess their educational needs and desires.

Mayor Johnny Robinson thanked City clerk Heather Marfell and Administrator Brenda Harris for their tireless efforts toward the three year project.

The facilities are set to open to the public in February.
