UPDATE from City of Fairfield: On Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order mandating masks to be worn in public and also issued new guidance on mass gatherings. Due to these orders, the City of Fairfield is postponing Saturday’s fireworks show to a later date. While we are sad to postpone the show, the health and safety of all Texans comes first. We will keep you all updated on a new date for the fireworks.

Independence Day, more widely called the Fourth of July, is in just a couple days, and that means fun and excitement throughout Freestone County while everyone celebrates the United States of America winning her freedom.

People have celebrated the Fourth of July in the manner that John Adams wrote to his wife, the day before signing the Declaration of Independence.

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shows, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more,” an excerpt of a letter from John Adams to his wife, Abigail Adams, on July 3, 1776.

Here are some of the festivities planned in Freestone County:

Fireworks will bring a dazzling display of color across the sky during the Annual Drive-In 4th of July Fireworks Show sponsored by the City of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

The show begins at dark at the Fairgrounds, and you can tune into 99.1 KNES as the show begins.

People are asked to follow CDC guidelines by staying in their vehicles, staying 6 feet from other groups of people, and not gathering in groups.

Fairfield City Administrator Nate Smith reminds Fairfield citizens, “The main points I would like to stress is that attendees have to either stay in their vehicles or remain near their vehicles. Also, vehicles must be parked with the appropriate amount of social distance.”

Wortham, Texas will start the day off with their “4th on Main” Parade starting at 9:00 a.m. July 4.

Everyone registered to be in the parade needs to meet 8:30 a.m. at the Baseball Fields.

The festivities do not stop when the parade ends though, there will be snow cones, hot dogs, and more for everyone, free of charge until supplies run out.

Bring your chair, your towel, and most of all bring your patriotic spirit.

Fisherman’s Point on Richland Chambers will be celebrating all day long on July 4th with Picnic on the Point with fireworks starting at 9:00 p.m.

The swim area is ready for kids to come visit either by boat or float, if you get hungry the Lighthouse Café is ready to serve up meals and appetizers.

Entry is $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per child ages 3 to 12 so head to the marina at 230 FM 416 Streetman, TX 75859.

The Teague, Texas Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Hamburger Supper starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Teague Hotel.

A parade at 6:00 p.m. will lead people to tons of fun and excitement on the slab across from the Teague Hotel.

Floats may have no more than ten people per float, with mask worn if more than one family group is on the float.

Throwing candy is highly discouraged due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Included in the fun will be a goat ribbon pull, a finest dressed cowboy/cowgirl, a stick horse race, and live music throughout!

Remember your social distancing, no more than ten people per group, and people must stay six feet away from other people. All people are encouraged to wear a mask while attending.

No matter where in Freestone County you are, there is plenty of fun and excitement this Independence Day.
