With many traveling for the holiday weekend, authorities report several wrecks on the crowded highways.
Friday afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, State Troopers, and Freestone County Sheriff’s Deputies respond to a two vehicle accident.
Multiple wrecks are reported to have occurred between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. that same evening.
On Saturday morning, State Troopers and Freestone County Sheriff’s Deputies respond to a call about a white Dodge dually in a tree on Hwy 179 near the water tower.
Early Sunday morning, an urgent broadcast from Navarro County stated that DPS Troopers were in pursuit of vehicle traveling southbound in northbound lanes of Interstate 45.
Freestone County Deputies and Troopers responded; and Fairfield PD stopped all traffic going northbound. Spike strips were deployed in Navarro County; and the vehicle finally came to a stop just inside the Freestone County line
The driver is reported to have been highly intoxicated; and was taken into custody.
