Fairfield Chamber of Commerce announces its First Annual Scarecrow Contest!
These scarecrows will be on display around the Freestone County Courthouse through the month of October.
All ages, individuals, families, clubs, groups, and businesses are welcome to participate. Each person, family, group, or business may have only one entry.
There are three divisions in this contest:
1 – Adult Individual or Adult Group (Clubs, Church, or Civic Groups)
2 – Youth Individual or Youth Group (Schools, Scouts, Teams, Clubs) *must be completed by children under 14 years of age. Adults may assist, but child/children must do majority of the work
3 – Business Group (Let your scarecrow promote you business!)
Theme can be traditional, whimsical, fairytale, humorous, fantasy, celebrity, etc. Design a scarecrow depicting your favorite fairytale, storybook, animal, or fantasy figure and let your imagination run wild.
Use of bright colors or unique materials is encouraged.
If you use papier-mâché, be sure it is sealed to protect it from the elements.
No political statements or inappropriate displays allowed.
Business category ONLY may have advertisements.
The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to disqualify entries they feel to be distasteful or not family friendly.
There is no maximum high limit, but width is restricted to 8-feet including scarecrow and props.
Scarecrows must be durable to be able to withstand the weather. If vegetation is used in your display, do not puncture as they will not last. All ornamentation must be securely attached.
You must supply large zip ties for the mount of scarecrow to the light pole. Props may be used as long as you stay within the 8-foot width limit and they are secured.
No electricity is available.
NO GLASS!
The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to remove any scarecrow that does not hold up to the natural elements.
All entrants must submit an application to the Chamber. You can pick up an application between September 1-15, 2016.
Space is limited, so it will be based on a first come, first served basis. There are only 22 light posts.
Scarecrows may be installed Saturday or Sunday, September 24 or 25 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Only scarecrows registered by 4:00 p.m. will be considered by the judges, as selected by the Chamber Committee. Judging will take place September 26-30, 2016.
Winners will be announced on October 1st at the Trinity Star Arts Council’s Fall Arts Fest at 11:30 a.m. during kick-off activities.
First place prize in each category is $100 worth of Chamber Bucks to be used at various businesses in Fairfield. Second and Third place winners will receive ribbons.
There is no entry fee; participation is FREE!
Scarecrows will remain on display for the public, weather permitting, through the month of October.
They must be taken down on November 1, 2016.
