STARR Resiliency Agency will host a Chamber Ribbon Cutting and Open House next week on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at their administration office in Fairfield, Texas.

The community is invited to stop by, visit with folks, and enjoy hotdogs and refreshments.

STARR Resiliency is a foster home for children who have been removed from their home by DFPS (Texas Department of Family and Protective Services).

State law requires placement within 4 hours of removal, and this organization fits that need for children in our area.

STARR Resiliency was formed in 2016 by Mrs. Octavia Reed (at left), a retired Army Veteran and graduate of Ashford University, with a passion for kids and a heart to serve and help others.

Upon retirement from the Army, Octavia chose to continue her selfless service to the community by establishing the nonprofit organization.

Her vision for STARR is to achieve permanency and stability in children, young adults, and veterans by providing wrap-around services; to include trauma informed care, therapeutic interventions, life-readiness skills through community support and service.

STARR Resiliency provides a 12-bed facility that operates 24/7. They accept children ages 5-17 years old.

Placement may last up to 90 days.

The organization received their license in July of 2022. Their first placement was in October of 2022.

STARR Resiliency currently employs 13 people from the community, plus a director and administrative staff.

According to LaShanda Marshall, Director of Organizational Strategy & Growth, donations from the community are always welcome. Children’s needs include such things as:
