Lakeside UMC Presents Douglas Family at 5th Sunday Sing

When it comes to performing, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it in the family. Since these musicians share a bloodline, a love for singing and the talent to do it, members of The Douglas Family (pictured above) decided to do it together professionally. Lori and Gary Douglas head-up this talented family group of singers who will be performing at our July Fifth Sunday Sing, to be held Sunday, July 29, beginning at 6:15 pm.

Three youngsters—Hannah, 18; Savannah, 17; and Garrett, 12—add their talents and young personalities to the mix. Southern Gospel favorites, with a bit of contemporary Christian, make for a wonderfully well-rounded performance that is guaranteed to touch listeners’ hearts in some special way.

“Lori and I started singing together back in the ‘80s,” said Gary. “We met when our family groups sang at her uncle’s church. Then as our kids got older, we started adding them to the group. We have a pact with the kids: if they won’t make faces when we sing our older songs, we won’t make faces at their contemporary music.”

The Douglas Family delights audiences across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Some of their favorites: The Palace Theater in Corsicana, the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, the Mesquite Convention Center (for the Gospel Music Artists Association), but they treasure the intimacy of a smaller church setting over all those large venues.

When asked about what makes a performance by The Douglas Family special, they answered “quality and anointing.” They combine comedy and stories about the life-changing power of the gospel with heartfelt songs, as they delight audiences with stirring, uplifting music.

Those who have attended some of Corsicana’s theater productions may be familiar with Gary Douglas, as he’s appeared in many of those plays, including last year’s The Addams Family.

Everyone is invited to attend Lakeside’s Fifth Sunday Sing for July, and are asked to bring an item or two of non-perishable food for our Food Bank barrel, in lieu of an admission fee. CDs by the artists will be available for purchase.

Lakeside United Methodist is located at 515 FM 416, about 12 miles east of Streetman or four miles west of the FM 488 and FM 416 intersection.
