Water everywhere; tanks filled up, lake filled up, and water gaps filled up! It’s the good with the bad kind of thing but we are not complaining! The lake was almost dry; we had little islands and one huge one. Plus the birds were walking on the dam end, which I think is 15 feet deep when the water is normal. It was truly a miracle to watch the lake fill from the rain as it came down in buckets and just kept coming. What a glorious sight. We are especially grateful since it will carry us into winter. It was nice to see one by one the “islands” vanishing before our eyes just from the rain, not just from runoff from the pasture. If we get any more rain the lake will spill way and that will be another glorious thing to be grateful for.

Of course at least one of the water gaps is standing straight up so that when the water goes down cows and Sundance can just walk on out of the pasture, down the creek and out to never neverland. So we locked the Yearling Herd up in the Horse pasture. If we get more rain we may have to clean out both of the main water gaps. We have a new plan this time; call in the boys! We are going to call our boys to come down and help us clean them out. Now we just have to work out the logistics of when they will all be off work and able to come. I’ve already been told my job will be to cook for everybody, which I don’t mind but I really like to do the outside work too. Course, I can always go and “supervise”! It is a good day at the Red Oak Ranch when water is plentiful.
