While we were taking the trash over to the highway barrels, I kept hearing something that sounded at first like someone coughing. Then it didn’t sound like a person and I thought maybe it was a cow or a calf coughing. On the way back to the house I heard it again and it seemed to be getting almost desperate. I asked The Colonel if he heard it and of course he said he didn’t. We came back through the Sweet Gum Grove which is a hard route to take lately…I will talk about that later, maybe next week.

I got out of the truck to open the gates and I definitely heard the coughing again and this time, I just knew The Colonel would hear it too…but he didn’t. He went on in the house and I was parking my truck. When I got out I walked very slow and decided the “coughing” sounded like a cat. I knew it had to be a big cat to make that big sound. So, I am thinking Panther, Bob Cat, back to Panther and Bob Cat! I walked on in the house and asked The Colonel one more time if he had heard it and also the cows had all run up to halfway between the feeders and the barn. They were all in a tight group which means to me they were afraid of something. Part of me wants to see whatever is making that noise and part of me says no, you don’t really want to.

As I am writing this around 10:30 p.m., I am hoping to get a good night’s sleep and maybe find something in the morning that lets me know for sure what the sound was.
