The cows are on the move. They move every time we do! Coming home this afternoon, we found the cows laid up until they saw us. Then they jumped up, started running and mooing and kicking their heels up, etc. I jumped out of the truck, yelled at the cows and then started slapping my gloves together. They came up almost to the gate before they got calmed down. I discovered long ago that if I just slapped my gloves together, they would take off. They moved back but didn’t actually take off.

I got the gates closed, and lo and behold, here comes Lucinda (out pet cow) coming marching up as if she were queen of the ranch. I explained to her that we couldn’t let her in and keep the others out. She decided she was OK with being petted, getting scratched behind her ear, and visiting with her.

After all that was taken care of, we got back in the truck and saw the babysitter and all her little charges running to get what they thought was goodies to eat. The calves were running as if they were in a race and when they slowed down, they looked around and saw all the other cows just standing around. Guess they thought they missed the first act of the play but soon they were over it. Such is the life at Red Oak Ranch.
