Sometimes horses are almost human. We filled Sundance’s water tub today, all the way to the top because we knew we would have to turn the water off due to cold nights! I fed her the oats she adores. Then I was going to walk down and put hay in her stable so she could stay warm if it got too cold. Well, that wasn’t what The Colonel wanted me to do. He said I don’t want you to carry that hay all the way down there, get in the truck and I will drive you down. I got in the truck; we went through the paddock where Sundance was eating.
I had to open the gate for The Colonel to get the truck in there knowing Sundance would not try to run out the gate. She did turn and look at us as if we were doing something crazy by riding in that big truck. But she was not going to stop eating no matter what. We got to the other gate leading out of the paddock and entering the area of the stables. I had gotten out of the truck when we reached that gate and started walking towards the stables. Putting hay in the trough I felt this nudge and when I turned there was Sundance watching me. I thought I saw a smile on her face. It seemed she was trying to say, I snuck up on you didn’t I?
After putting the hay out, I saw The Colonel coming in the truck. I tried to get the gate open but it seemed to be stuck. It was making a lot of noise and once again Sundance looked at us and I thought she probably thinks she can’t eat her supper with us being around as we make too much noise. Our animals do talk to us and smile at us at the Red Oak Ranch.
