Feeling sorry for the Beagles this evening, The Colonel gave them a “pass through” which means they get to go in the front yard by going through the utility room. Something all Beagles seem to love to do. So, they are out in the front yard with The Colonel. MO and Tasha are just looking and sniffing around, making the rounds. No barking, no baying, no nothing. Suddenly The Colonel knocks on the window and tells me to get the binoculars. I stepped out on the porch and handed them to him asking what he was looking at. He told me hogs were down getting a drink out of the lake.
He handed me the binoculars and walked in the house to get his rifle. I looked down towards the lake and realized he had not told me the whole story! He had said there were a couple of babies with the bigger hogs. I saw two big hogs, a couple of smaller ones and then all of a sudden about 10-15 tiny piglets ran up from the lake! These piglets couldn’t have been more than a week or two old. It was dusk and they were hard to see if they were not moving. The Colonel asked if they were still there and I said yes along with all the tiny ones.
He stepped out on the porch sighting them in and the dogs started barking! Well, you know what happened then, the hogs and all the piglets ran….FAST. I couldn’t find them, he couldn’t find them and the dogs stopped barking! It almost looked like a conspiracy between the Beagles and the hogs! So much for taking out this group of hogs at the Red Oak Ranch.
