Last week we had a round up and carried some cows to Buffalo to the sale barn. After gathering the cows we got the trailer hooked up so we could load them. We gathered cows from the Back Pasture. So, we got them loaded and off we went. SOS and Stoneshire are the bulls that jumped the fence and got in the Back Pasture. We left our newest bull SOS who is the Son of Stoneshire back there as we didn’t have room for him in the trailer to bring him up here at the time. The Colonel had gotten Stoneshire back, but SOS wouldn’t come with him. After going to the sale barn, we came back, picked up SOS who was not at all happy with us, the trailer, or anything. But we got him loaded and started on the trek up to the Middle Herd where he belongs.

The Middle Herd had been in the North East Pasture when we left to go to Buffalo. We wanted to let SOS out where he could see the herd he belongs to but we looked in the North East Pasture and saw no cows even though the gate was closed. We knew the small pasture was closed because we had closed that gate before leaving for Buffalo. We let him out by the entrance to the North East Pasture where they should have been.

We drove into the North East Pasture and after driving like crazy because it was wet in there, we came to the last levy and there they were…hiding. They were on the other side of the levy, hunkered up where we couldn’t see them until we got right on them. So, we decided the Red Oak Ranch has some pretty smart cows…they know to play hide and seek.
