Dear Editor,

In my letter of 2/14/24, I offered some defenses of charges made by another letter writer, El Sellers, against President Biden. I proposed I could be wrong, and would listen to reason. I meant this sincerely. In a letter of 2/21/23, Mr. Sellers attempts to supply some REASON, as opposed to NONSENSE. Let’s see how that worked out.

Under point 1., Mr. Sellers states, concerning Biden’s “criminal complicity” – “no formal charges have been made of Biden Senior.” I acknowledge this as “REASON” since it is unadorned fact (rather than speculation or unsupported accusation), and so anything further at this point on this topic is NONSENSE.

Under point 2., Mr. Sellers, concerning Biden’s age, states that in public addresses Biden has bobbled names and events, among other signs of “confusion.” In my own letter of the 14th, I specifically said “REASON” dictates not only that a complaint be valid, but we must consider the alternative. As of this date, the Republican frontrunner is Donald Trump. Conveniently, Mr. Sellers refuses to defend Trump, but REASON dictates we must weigh whether the alternative IN OUR CURRENT WORLD OF REALITY is “any better” on the topic being discussed. It would be total NONSENSE to declare Trump not at least as prone to gaffes, misstatements, and confusion as Biden. Criticizing on this topic is currently pointless. Certainly, Mr. Sellers offers no viable alternative.

Under point 3., Mr. Sellers tackles the issue of “International weakness”, stating, “Mr. Biden’s refusal to forcefully commit to the defense of Taiwan.” NONSENSE. “President Joe Biden made headlines when he asserted in a 60 Minutes interview that the United States would come to Taiwan’s defense if China were to launch an unprovoked attack.” Further, Mr. Sellers asserts, “Communist China (our avowed enemy).” NONSENSE. Secretary of State Antony Blinken states the Biden Administration’s approach to China will be “competitive when it should be, collaborative when it can be, and adversarial when it must be.” China, at least at this point in time, is NOT our “avowed enemy.” Heck, Donald Trump and Ivanka get most of their glitzy merch made there!

Continuing with “international weakness,” Mr. Sellers cites “the shameful abandonment of Afghanistan.” NONSENSE “In February 2020, the United States and the Taliban reached a deal, known as the Doha Agreement, under which the United States agreed to withdraw all U.S. forces from Afghanistan by May 2021.” Who was president in February of 2020? Donald Trump.

Mr. Sellers continues with several other numbered “rebuttals,” but they are no more REASONABLE than the above. Facts are reasonable. Opinions based on partisan suspicions, on half-baked conspiracy theories, on biased talking points, or on fact-free propaganda are NONSENSE. Opinions that offer no viable alternative are simply USELESS.

Biden and Trump are the most likely candidates (and are on ballots currently gathering votes). Sellers claims he would never (again, in the case of Trump) vote for either man. So what does he suggest? Not voting at ALL? Voting 3rd party for a candidate that can never win? Wringing our hands and moaning “Woe is me”? Let’s be clear, the fewer people who vote, the more this advantages Republicans; it’s why Republican legislatures work so hard to make voting as difficult as possible.
