The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, 9 May 2017, at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana. The guest speakers were Christina Lucas, Curator of Exhibits and Collections, and Bob O’Toole, Docent, with the Pearce Museum at Navarro College in Corsicana.

The speakers described the museum as containing three primary collections of Civil War, Western Art and Native American information. The Western Art exhibit has some 288 paintings and sculptures with about 80 on display at any one time. And, the Native American artifacts represent several thousand years of residency in the area. Key contributions to the museum by the Pearce Family as well as former Corsicana mayor, Robert Reading were discussed.

The museum is located in the Cook Center at 3100 W. Collin St. in Corsicana on the Navarro College Campus. http://www.pearcemuseum.com/ It was emphasized that volunteers are needed as docents to conduct tour groups as well as perform a wide variety of functions such as staff the information desk, staff special events, assist with administrative duties, transcribe or edit historical documents, and work on many other special projects.
