With pen in hand, Fairfield Mayor Roy Hill proclaims Saturday, April 28, 2018 to be Pay It Forward Day. Witnessing is (left-right): Emily Emrick, Gina Martin, Brenda Pate, Gail Farish, and Finn Smith.
An initiative that has been adopted by Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, the aim of the Pay It Forward concept is to promote community spirit through acts of kindness.
The Pay It Forward novel, written by Catherine Ryan Hyde in 2000, inspired the creation of a movie and a movement to spread good deeds all over the world.
Pay It Forward Day was first created in 2007 in Australia. It has become a worldwide effort, supported by people in more than 70 countries on 6 continents.
The concept is simple. People are encouraged to do good deeds for others without asking for anything in return except for the recipients to “pay it forward” to others in need.
“Together we can make a difference by creating positive change in our community and world – one good deed at a time,” reads the proclamation.
Everyone is encouraged to observe this day with activities and acts of kindness that demonstrate and celebrate selfless giving.
