Packing up shoes for her trip up north is Donna Tyus, President of Fairfield History Club.
The shoes are part of the President’s Project for 2018-2019: Soles4Souls.
Over 200 pairs of shoes have been collected from the community by the Fairfield History Club with the help of Fairfield Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge #103.
Soles4Souls is a charity that collects new and used shoes and redistributes them through direct donations to people in need and through micro-enterprise partners.
Since they began in 2006, Soles4Souls has distributed over 30 million pairs of shoes to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal, Haiti, Japan and the United States.
Once in the country, networks of micro-enterprise business operators receive inventories of shoes to sell. Shoes are in high demand as they are universally needed, easy to transport and sell, and can be bartered for other goods.
Donating shoes is one of the “Seven Grand Initiatives” of the GFWC National President, Mary Ellen Brock. The Fairfield History Club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
President Tyus took the shoes to a Soles4Souls drop off in Coppell, Texas on Friday, May 31, 2019.
Thanks to all who contributed shoes to the collection.
