Last week was bittersweet for The “Times” family.

Our Assistant Editor, and Advertising Designer extraordinaire, Megan Hempel, finished her last news story before heading to a new adventure.

As this edition heads to the newsstand, Megan travels just north of Freestone County to become editor of Explore Corsicana magazine and assistant editor to the Corsicana Daily Sun.

We wish her the best.

Megan grew up in the newspaper business. She was about my grandson’s age when our publisher and I first started kicking around the idea of starting a new publication.

She started with taking pictures and assisting with the typing. Later, Megan took a job in sales, then moved to ad design before becoming my right hand, adding page layout and news writing to her repertoire.

The City of Teague was her beat, and Megan most enjoyed covering stories at the courthouse.

Megan was also responsible for the inital design of the Go Fairfield app, launched in 2017.

Although we expect to see her on occasion, we will miss seeing Megan each news day.

Reporter Nicole Schaefer will take over the advertising desk. Several of this week’s new ads are her creation.

Deadlines for ad content have been changed to 12:00 noon on Fridays to assist us with the transition.

All ads received on time with the new deadlines will guarantee publication in the next edition.

Monday submissions will depend on the Editor’s discretion, and may be moved to the following week.

This will allow our smaller crew to concentrate on building that week’s paper in time for Monday evening’s press deadline.

We appreciate our advertisers and readers, and thank you in advance for your assistance during this transition.

And, the news continues…
