A lot of new things are happening at Teague Hospital District EMS. As you’re all probably aware or have seen, the old hospital is coming down. The water damage sustained during the freeze was beyond repair. I would like to share some information with our residents as I have seen and been asked a lot of questions recently regarding EMS, hospital demo, as well as tax.

Teague Hospital District was formed after the hospital was built many decades ago. After it closed the city of Teague asked it to take over EMS since it had recently closed. The hospital district took on the challenge to provide EMS service for the area. This area is the same as the Teague School District. We provide an ambulance to respond to 911 calls, emergency patient transfers, and community events such as football, rodeo, etc. These services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. We staff our ambulances with a Paramedic provider and an EMT. We added a 12-hour ambulance in 2018 that’s also Paramedic staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. due to increasing call volume and to try and generate more funding to help keep the imposed tax down. The 5 cent tax has been in place and unchanged for well over decade. We are constantly making improvements to our arsenal of equipment to provide the most advanced level of care possible to our community as we feel they deserve nothing less.

I’d also like to share some statistics from this past year as it’s come to a close.

Call Volume

We responded to 1,208 calls. Up from 1,095 last year and up from 720 in 2017. Steady increase every year.

Our average response time was <1 minute from page to enroute.

Average total call time was 59 minutes. (Start to finish).

Over 75% of all responses resulted in the transport of 1 or more patients.

We are very proud of our equipment and ambulances and we take very good care of them and make them last. They are very expensive to replace.

Current Fleet

–2020 Van style ambulance purchased in April 2021. 30k miles

–2015 Chevy Frazer ambulance purchased in 2015. 153k miles

–2009 Chevy Frazer purchased in 2009. 219k miles

As the call volumes increase the mileage does as well.

We billed almost 30k miles which is just the part of the trip with the patient inside the unit. Our crews traveled upwards of 75k miles last year.
