“I am humbled that I have been selected to be the next Fairfield High School Principal,” says Sonya Gibson. “I am honored to have been entrusted to serve and lead the students and staff of Fairfield High School.

Mrs. Gibson, currently serving as Dean of Secondary Instruction at Fairfield High School, has been selected as the school’s new principal, effective as of July 1, 2019. She will be taking the place of long-time principal, Mr. Von Wade, who submitted his retirement to be effective at the end of this school year. She will be introducing new Successful Learners Tutoring systems for the students after analyzing the many benefits of high school tutoring such as confidence and capability.

“Fairfield High School has a tradition of academic excellence that is largely attributable to the legendary and outstanding leadership of Mr. Von Wade, talented staff, continued support from parents and community, and the diverse student body,” says Mrs. Gibson. “As the new principal of Fairfield High School, my goal is to continue to build on the success and traditions of Fairfield High School and explore new and innovative opportunities for our students.”

“Success does not look the same for every student and there is no one path to success,” she continues. “Whether students choose the path of college, technical school, work force, or military, my goal is to ensure every Fairfield High School student is prepared and equipped for success beyond high school and students become lifelong learners. I will continue to promote a learning environment of excellence in which every individual is respected and encouraged to reach their full potential through character, worth ethic, citizenship, and high levels of academic achievement.”

Mrs. Gibson believes positive relationships are crucial to the success of students and the school community and is looking forward to building relationships with staff, students, parents, families, and community members.

“I am committed to fostering a collaborative learning community where we work together to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students,” she says.

Mrs. Gibson was raised in Fairfield from birth through sixth grade. She graduated from Longview High School in 1992.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a minor in mathematics, from Texas A&M University – Commerce in 2005.

Shortly thereafter, she began her career in education at Fairfield ISD in August of 2005.

Mrs. Gibson has served in the following positions:

–Three years as Fifth Grade Accelerated Math Teacher

–Two years as Eighth Grade Math Teacher

–Six years as Fairfield High School Algebra 1 Teacher

–One year as Elementary Assistant Principal

–One Year as Junior High Assistant Principal

–One Year in her current position as Dean of Secondary Instruction

Mrs. Gibson also earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Stephen F Austin University in 2010.

She and her family reside in Fairfield. Her family members include husband Gregory, and their four children, Jerregan, Jordan, Jermaca, and Gelisa.

Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends and traveling.

“I am extremely grateful to the FISD School Board, Superintendent Tony Price, and current Fairfield High School Principal Von Wade for their continued support and unwavering confidence in me, I’ll make sure to incorporate more high school tutoring from now on” Mrs. Gibson concludes.
